The Atticus alternative

Atticus formats the book you bring it.
WordCrafter.Pro formats the book you wrote here.

Atticus is a good one-time-purchase formatter, and if formatting is the only job you need done, it is the cheaper tool. WordCrafter.Pro puts the same job inside the app your manuscript already lives in: rewrite a chapter, pull latest, reflow. No export, no import, and the cover, audiobook and launch campaign are one tab away.

Atticus figures are from its published materials and third-party reviews as of September 2026; check its site before you buy. Formatting alone is cheaper in Atticus. The comparison is the whole pipeline against one step of it.

Why formatting belongs next to the manuscript

Every formatter that lives outside your writing app has the same hidden cost: the moment you fix a typo in chapter twelve, the formatted file is out of date. You export, import, re-style and re-check. LayoutCrafter reads the binder directly. The paginated preview breaks pages with the same engine the PDF export uses, so what you see is what prints, and the page count it produces feeds the spine calculator that sizes your cover.

Where Atticus is still ahead, honestly

Footnotes, box sets and an offline desktop app. If you write non-fiction with footnotes or publish omnibus editions today, Atticus does those now and LayoutCrafter does not yet. Both are on the roadmap. Nothing stops you exporting DOCX from WordCrafter.Pro into Atticus in the meantime.
